We've always been about fresh produce. Founder Frank Canepa (our Grandfather) opened the store as a produce market in 1929. He insisted on picking out the produce himself. Today, owner David Canepa and produce manager Kevin Dossett continue that tradition. We are the first buyers at the produce market each buying day to ensure we get first pick. Local, farm direct, organic, and conventional all find a home in our produce department. Quality and freshness is of utmost importance. Now, more than ever, we strive to support the local farmer whenever possible. Our goal is from the farm to our store in the same day.

Farmer Jim™ Produce

Former owner Jim Canepa, the heart and soul of Mill Valley Market, was "Farmer Jim." He loved the farming life and grew beautiful organic fruits and vegetables for the market on a small farm in Glen Ellen. Although Jim Canepa passed away in October 2007, his sons Doug and David are committed to continue what he started. They are increasing the land under cultivation so that the selection of organic Farmer Jim Produce™ can be expanded at Mill Valley Market.
